Bulawayo– The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) will hold a discussion on depression awareness and suicide prevention tomorrow at the institution with a guest speaker from the University of Cape Town (UCT).

This comes after a part II finance student committed suicide at the institution recently.

Depression and suicidal thoughts are two of the most frightening things a person can face in their lifetime. Unfortunately, acting on those suicidal thoughts is a far too common scenario for many across the world, including students.

Studies have also shown that in most suicide cases, the victims usually do not show signs of distress or depression.

Speaking after the death of the student last month, the university’s Communications and Marketing officer, Lindiwe Nyoni, revealed the availability of counselling services at the institution.

“We do have counseling services available on campus that we always encourage students to make use of if they have financial, social or any other problems so that we help them,” she said.

This will be a platform where students will assist each other to prevent the loss of life in the institution.
