Bulawayo– Two Bulawayo music giants, Mzoe 7 and DJ Skaiva, have reveled that their comradeship and careers started when they both met in high school numerous years before.

Afro fusionist Mzobanzi ‘Mzoe 7’ Mlauzi  and Mqondisi ‘Dj Skaiva’ met in high school a few years ago . Their  love of music led to one of the biggest duos the city has ever seen.

Mzoe7 and Dj Skaiva formed a group called house rebels which is one of the best house groups in Bulawayo. They have released many songs over the years including the popular song ‘Imali yeqolo’ and ‘Kwasakwasa.’

The Tenacity Post caught up with the duo and filed this report.

How did you both meet?

‘‘Skaiva is my best friend; we met a few years ago when we were in high school. We both loved music and I was a vocalist while Dj Skaiva was a disc jockey so It was easy for us to get along,’’ Mzoe said.

‘‘Mzoe was a great vocalist; we quickly got along with each other and that led us to create a music group called the house rebels,” DJ Skaiva added.

How important was your first gig?

Mzoe 7: Our first gig was very important, I was very excited because people were finally going to see us perform live and it meant our music brand was going to grow.

DJ SKAIVA: Our first gig was important because we performed at ‘Ayoba Bar’ now known as ‘Stop over,’ the place was always packed with people back then and so we had to make a name for ourselves so that we can be famous.

Did you ever argue over decision making?

DJ SKAIVA: Mzoe and I always fight, especially in the studio. Sometimes even about the type of food which we would want to eat during lunch. If I want sadza, Mzoe would prefer rice or spaghetti therefore we end up arguing, but at the end of the day we manage to come up with something progressive

Have you both ever had a crush on the same girl?

Mzoe 7: Skaiva and I have a different tastes when it comes to women, but if he has feelings for someone I will definitely try to hook him up with the lady

What can the fans expect next from you?

DJ SKAIVA: I am working on a new single right now, and when I am done I will be focusing on releasing an album

MZOE 7: As for myself, I am focusing on my acting career right now, I got a role on a new series called ‘Ezakomatshelela’. I am also working on a new single as well.
