Former Highlanders son and legend, Madinda Ndlovu has been honoured by the people of Mbembesi community after they decided to name their stadium which is yet to be built after him.
Madinda, the legend, was the guest of honour at the ceremony held at Mqwashisi Primary School last Saturday accompanied by Highlanders FC Chief Executive Officer, Nhlanhla Dube.
The announcement was made during a ceremony to hand over the school that was established in 1924 back to the community after its renovations were completed.
Dube celebrated the honour of Madinda through a post on his twitter.
“We are humbled by the honor received by our legend Madinda Ndlovu in Mbembesi yesterday. The Xhosa community will name its stadium Madinda Ndlovu stadium. They will work with him in identifying & developing soccer players from the Community, and sending them to Bosso,” the tweet read.
This honour was also welcome by the public as they took to social media to express themselves.
Pardon Mukakaso, is one these people who acknowledged the honour of Madinda, posting:
“That’s good to remember some of the football greats.”
Nsindamanzi also echoed the same sentiments.
“Siyabonga. It’s like a civic honour. I am really proud when communities honour their own heroes. This reflects on how the community values Madinda Ndlovu,” his tweet read.
Meanwhile, Highlanders ended their winless streak in the Castle Premier Soccer league (PSL) after edging Harare City 0-2 in a match played at Barbourfields Stadium last Sunday.
Highlanders’ last tasted victory in September, when they beat Yadah 2-1 in front of their home crowd.
This was followed by two consecutive draws against Caps United and Shabanie Mine before defeats to Bulawayo City and Chapungu United.
