Bulawayo– The imali yeqolo hitmaker, Dj Skaiva will this Friday (today) perform at Zarah Lounge.

Dj Skaiva is part of the Elevation session- a house movement being pushed by Da Grooveman focusing on Bulawayo House music producers, artists and DJs, happening every Fridays at Zarah Lounge.

“The idea is to elevate Bulawayo producers, artists and DJs as most of them are looked down on every time there is a big event in Bulawayo,” Da Grooveman said.

The movement was incepted on the first day of the month at MduSevan’s album and video launch.

“As a resident DJ at Zarah and the Director of Groove Events, I officially launched this movement on Friday, the 1st of February with MduSevan’s album and video launch where he performed live with his artists on stage. We also had supporting DJs, Deeper (Mr Stripes), NiteFreak (Ghost),” Da Grooveman said.

The movement continues this week, with the Elevation session giving an opportunity on the decks to renowned Dj, Dj Skaiva.

“This Friday I’m hosting Bulawayo’s number 1 producer Skaiva supported by Renovation Boyz, Zulu Dman.”

“The concept is to push local house music producers, artists and Dj’s to give them confidence and the exposure they need then after a month and a half we will take a three weeks break  as we will be preparing for the Grand finale to be hosted at Cosmo Club in Bulawayo where the line-up will feature all producers, artists and Djs that we hosted every Friday under one roof, ”he said.

Da Grooveman asked the corporate world to chip in so that the event at Cosmo becomes a success.

“Hopeful we will get the corporate world to be part of the grand finale. The end result that we want to archive is to see Bulawayo music elevating or growing, to see more Bulawayo artists being booked, to create a vibe in Bulawayo by Bulawayo artists and to help them become brands that will be recognised in Zimbabwe and outside the country as well,” Da Grooveman said.

Taking a cue from South Africa, where renowned Artists like Casper Nyovest have managed to fill up stadiums, the Grooveman said the goal was to give local artists exposure that will enable them to manage to fill up local stadiums.

“At the end of the year we need to be able to host our own big stadium events that will turn to be annual events and have a big following.”
