Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), has reached out to its sister Unions in the education sector and the Zimbabwe Nurses Association to collectively demand salaries in US dollars among other grievances.
The decision was made at meeting that was held today at ZINA offices.
ARTUZ salutes the cross sector coalition of the working class in a bid to demand a living wage under the prevailing harsh economic realities.
The collective initiative was successfully resolved as follows,
1(a) We stand in total solidarity with the Doctors and all medical personnel currently on strike
 (b) We are in total disagreement with subtle and open threats against them for embarking on legitimate strike action;
b)We strongly suggest the urgent address of the demands of the doctors.
2. As the education and health services sectors, we have unanimously resolved with effect from this day that our incapacitated members will not be able to attend to their duties.
3. We demand that our salaries be paid in US$ with effect from October 2018.
4. Our outstanding bonus component must be paid immediately.
5. If the government harasses any of the Health and Education Services members, the concept of injure all will immediately kick in.
The new development is in sync with the call for unity that has been consistently called for by ARTUZ leadership. The Union will also proceed with the 7 January protest and sister Unions have pledged to join others at the Minister of Finance’s offices.
