All is set for this year’s annual Volta A Bulawayo cycling competition to be held in the city today by the Bulawayo Flying Eagles Cycling club.
Registration for the three day event ending on 7 October has now began.
Clifford Kee-Tui, the Bulawayo Flying Eagles Chairman confirmed this year annual race is still on.
“This year’s event is still on and the Volta A Bulawayo is much alive.”
“Everything is now in place, we have set the routes and we now are cleared by the police. So we are now ready and all is set .Registration will commence before the first race of the competition and we encourage everyone to participate,” he said.
Kee-Tui revealed that they are expecting 40 participants to partake in the competition.
“As a committee we have targeted at least 40 participants in the different categories, said Kee-Tui.
Registration is pegged at $15 per individual race and $30 for the whole tour. The competition comprises of three different races and their categories.
1,5km prologue will be first race of the event that will start at (16.45) Tshabalala Game Park and finish along Matopos road.
Masters, juniors, Veterans and Ladies categories will compete in the 80km and 60km elite races that will be rode along Gwanda on Saturday at 06.30am respectively.
The 120km elite race will also be contested by masters, juniors, veterans and ladies categories on the final day of the event.
The Bulawayo Flying Eagles Cycling club chairman said that the event carries the prestige of being the champions of Bulawayo to the winners.
“The competition carries the honour of being champions of Bulawayo in the discipline. We have floating trophies that will be awarded to the different categories and the winners will receive vouchers courtesy of the National Refineries,” Kee-Tui said.
