Commuters left stranded as operators hike fare

Bulawayo – Commuters were left stranded today after commuter omnibus operators hiked the fare by 100%.

The hike comes as a result of fuel shortages that have hit the landlocked country. Unwinding fuel queues could be seen in most filling stations in the city which happened to have the now ‘golden juice’ in stock.

This comes after Kombi operators had threatened a $0. 25c hike last week.
Shocked commuters could not hide their anger when interviewed by The Tenacity Post this evening.

“This morning I paid 50 cents coming to work and now they are saying I should pay a dollar to go back home. I only had 50 cents cash with me and they are saying they don’t accept ecocash…I am so stranded and I am forced to walk home” , said Roland Ncube from Old Magwegwe.

The development, is likely to make life hard for ordinary Zimbabweans who just recently witnessed a futher hike in basic commodities. Bread prices shot up last week with bakers citing forex shortages and high operational costs as some of the reasons for the hike.
