The army’s intervention in the country’s politics which resulted in former president, Robert Mugabe’s ouster from power is now a subject of academic examination at universities.

The bloodless coup, which the army dubbed “Operation Restore Legacy”, is now being examined by the Public Policy and Policy Analysis students at Bindura University of Science Education who have been asked to research on the role of the military in public policing.

“The usurpation of policing powers by the army during operation restore legacy was justified. Discuss this statement from a Human Rights and Policing Perspective. Plagiarism will not be accepted,” reads one of the students’ assignments

The assignment under course code PS202 (Human rights and policing) was seen by Tenacity Post.

Operation Restore Legacy, a military operation which triggered the demise of Mugabe started on the 13th of November 2017 and ended on the 18th of December 2017.

Following the operation, former Zanu-PF vice president, Emmerson Mnangagwa who was fired by Mugabe and sought refuge in neighbouring South Africa before coming back was subsequently chosen by Zanu-PF to replace Mugabe as both the head of state and government as well as the party’s First Secretary.
